Kickass and Birds and Frogs

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports a major shift in the keeper’s area of interest this spring from “birding” to “frogging” based on DNR information suggesting that he is less likely to be comfortable in the company of millions of migrating warblers and more at ease consorting with emerging frogs, and toads since they are also included in the DNR’s 40-year-old “Phenology” census. The project involves several thousand volunteer “froggers” who follow instructions to record the breeding calls of the state’s 12 frog and toad species over the course of a year.

While the keeper has gone out in the past to listen to bird calls, it would be a new experience for him to venture out to listen to frogs and toads communicate about their sex lives.

He would invite Phyllis to go along but she will likely be busy getting the Silver Badgers ready for Saturday’s big “No Kings 3” day out on Gammon. Would they be called spring peepers or bullfrogs?
