Kickass, the doorstop dog, joins the keeper in lamenting the cultural trend that has many in the keeper’s age group disdained, ridiculed and ignored for not having kept up to speed in the tech world.
There is the clear signal that those vintage citizens who either struggle in the tech stampede or choose to ignore it, are lessor human beings and no longer worthy of serious consideration.
Generational pace setters have been around forever, and their arrogance has been a fact of life since they laughed at uncle Cavemen for not recognizing the value of hot rocks.
A couple of generations ago, being left in the dust of lifestyle advances meant that Grandpa T.J. Stokes, a horse trader, tipped over several cars before recognizing that it was his responsibility and not that of absent horses to slow a vehicle down before rounding a corner.
If it were not for Phyllis’s kind tech assistance, the keeper would struggle to answer his damn “dumb phone,” and to turn on his computer. Now as he rides down life’s road, feeling as if Grandpa T.J. is at the wheel, the keeper has an irresistible urge to shout “WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! There’s a corner up ahead, and we’re going ninety miles an hour!”
