Kickass, the doorstop dog, joins the keeper and Phyllis in welcoming Phyllis’s sister and brother-in-law Joan and Bill from Saskatchewan where Phyllis was born and raised and where, from time to time she has expressed a desire to return to.

The visit talk has not yet dealt with that issue, and the keeper is left wondering if Joan and Bill are here to save Phyllis from the Donnie Donnybrook in Washington, or did they cross the border simply in an entertainment mode, like visiting the zoo?

The keeper and Phyllis welcome Joan and Bill and their shared opinions that there is trouble here in “River City” USA that effects everyone including their granddaughters out in Virginia.

As a younger sister Joan shares Phyllis’s inclination see things in a repairable light, and the keeper tries not to be defensive about anything as the two of them discuss some of their five brothers and sisters and others.

Bill is a hobbyist rock collector and avid golfer, and it has crossed the keeper’s mind that Bill might be vulnerable to a bribe to take the keeper along if, in fact, he and Joan really intend to retrieve Phyllis to save her.

What would be the most effective bribe—a rock or a golf ball? If it was for someone like the Donnie Donnybrook golfer it would be a rock disguised as a golf ball, but Bill is a good guy.
