Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper starts every morning looking out across the parking lot at the schools and the streets and the many distant buildings, and then marveling at how everybody gets where they need to be in such a fast-paced routine of sharing intersections and high-speed highways and bike paths and all the rest of the modern morning maze.
It is obviously fair to say that the keeper is easily entertained, but his morning observation does not come without investing some mental energy. Does that long-legged kid striding purposefully toward high school have any idea of life’s limitless potential ahead of him?
Will the young woman headed over for training instruction at the beauty school end up with her own hair or nail shop back in her hometown as she told the keeper at his last haircut session?
What does the food delivery truck driver think about between stops?
The distant view of the State Capitol as usual has it appearing as a pimple way off on the horizon and the keeper tamps down any political thoughts and watches a sparrow take four sips of water from the balcony birdbath.
Then it is coffee with Phyllis and the day is off and running.
Well, maybe not “running” like the kids catching the yellow bus down on the corner, but April 2026 is at least started.
