Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper and Phyllis winding up their long relationships with vehicles with a faithful Subaru that rests docilely in basement parking until there is a medical or supply need and the keeper assumes the driver’s seat with Phyllis occupying the “participating passenger position.”
While she is very restrained at giving advice, Phyllis does wisely alert the driver to certain traffic circumstances and always helps with the braking by pushing down hard on the floorboards in front of her seat.
With the keeper still comfortable with his vision and reaction times as they relate to driving, he knows there will come that “turn-in-the-keys” time, which leads him to wonder about the full circle of personal travel history when a lot of the necessary personal driving decisions were made by horses?
What will be Vista West management’s reaction when the keeper announces that the Subaru in his parking stall is to be replaced by a horse, –and a buggy, of course?
