Kickass, the doorstop dog, agrees with the keeper and Phyllis that the fun went out of April Fool’s Day when you could no longer tell Mom there was an elephant out on the lawn or a mouse in the cereal box.
And, of course, in this day and age “April 1” is no longer just a fun day but has morphed into an actual personality so when you say “April Fool” everyone knows who you are talking about, and that also extends to “May Fool, June Fool and all the rest of them.
April Fool’s day history relates the origin of the day as having to do with it being easier to catch fish in the early spring and thus those who fall for an April Fool’s day prank are referred to as “fish.”
It is not pleasant to consider what that says about a world of “fish” that somehow fell for the Mom jokes about an elephant on the lawn or mouse in the cereal box. This gullibility resulted in an infestation of rats from the basement to the attic with the top rat laying eggs like an Easter bunny gone bad, and mad.
Where is Mom when we desperately need her on this 2026 April Fool’s Day?
