Kickass, the doorstop dog, on this rainy morning of Sept. 30, 2026 joins the keeper in applauding the democracy of rain–step out into it and you get wet no matter who or what you are, or might think you are too important to get rained on.
The same is true, of course, for all kinds of weather, from blizzards to blue-sky sunshine, everybody and everything gets the same thing, even if they might think of themselves as “wealthy” weather-proof.
The natural response to predictable seasons of unpleasant weather is to either migrate or hibernate, processes that are now ongoing–millions of birds heading south in the night sky and critters everywhere putting on fat for their long sleeps.
In what the keeper sees as a serious glitch in the great evolutionary handoff, the human species is more or less left out in the rain and the snow and the freezing cold with this big intelligent brain and told to “figure it out” weatherwise!
The result is global chaos with millions running for shelter or making panic forays toward the tropics, or simply gorging themselves to build survival beer-bellies and energy enough to deal with driveway snowdrifts and icy sidewalks.
The weather’s democratic character extends to it, providing a subject of conversation for everyone. The first thing Phyllis said today after “Good morning,” was “Is it going to rain all day?”
The keeper thought that might be the case, and so the democratic weather day of Sept 30, 2026 was off and running….and raining.
