Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper stumbling across a faded newspaper clipping that detailed one of the tragedies that came to determine the course of his life.
And as always the clipping found the keeper and Phyllis reviewing the early tragedy in her life, and how those two awful water-related occurrences figure into where the keeper and Phyllis now ride out their long, rewarding lives.
In October of 1955 a 25-year-old father of four small children was killed when the small plane he was piloting crashed into a lake at the end of a Rice Lake area landing strip.
On Aug. 14, 1962, a 25-year-old father of one with a pregnant wife, drowned in a Saskatchewan lake as he swam to rescue his wife in a stranded boat.
That fate took those two vital 25-year-olds in water-related tragedies has had an incredible bearing on many lives for a very long time. The sudden exit of Jerry and George from the joys of lives that lay before them has not been granted its due.
“You missed out on a lot, Jerry and George, but know that many people were proud to pick up the broken pieces of your lives and make the best of them. And the best was simply great, right down to this September 28, 2026!
“Thank you, Jerry and George!”
