Kickass, the doorstop dog, has not received a personal invitation to sit at the Legacy Table with the keeper and Phyllis today as Vista West celebrates its 5th birthday, but he might show up anyway.
This upcoming weekend of marking special dates is a bit overwhelming for the keeper, marking as it does the coincidence of his 95th birthday sharing the date with the 25thanniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.
A simple calendar review means that as the keeper, on his 70th birthday, was lamenting the fact of his “getting old,” the most devastating attack in US history was killing thousands in the very heart of the country.
Things quickly began to assume a more sobering perspective and that has prevailed down through the past 25 years. To see “getting old” as a downer is dumb, and the keeper thinks he is learning to roll with that verity and see his 95th birthday as a wonderful treat that is denied most people, including the 9/11 victims.
Kickass, if he makes it to the Vista West Legacy table at today’s party, may ask Phyllis to remind the keeper that there is recent internet video evidence of a 100-year-old lady skydiving.
Happy birthday to Vista West!
