Kickass, the doorstop dog, just gave the keeper a demonstration of what it means to “kick the hornet nest” as yesterday’s “Kickass” used an across-the-street shooting incident to comment on the sad state of cultural gun affairs. The sadness is in the tenacious hold of the gunslinger mentality which holds that using guns is the way to protect and solve problems, and incidentally, to dispense with personal irritations and for those unfortunate enough to have them, to exorcise demons by slaughtering school kids or church members.
Guns are, of course, used in countless entertaining ways. The keeper was a hunter most of his life as are many of his family members.
But for the “pry-my-gun-out-of-my-dead-fingers” crowd that resists every attempt to put reason and intelligence into the ever-building cultural gun tsunami, the keeper and Phyllis hope the next shooting is not on their street or near their kids’ school!
(News note: An attempt was recently made to remove the existing legal provision that restricts gun possession by those with a record of domestic violence!)
Can we at least have a meeting to talk about you taking your guns along to get a hamburger at McDonalds!
