Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper commenting to Phyllis that he probably would have heard the gunshots if the balcony door had been open. As it was, he watched as the fire department vehicles parked over on Tree Lane to wait for the police squads to deal with the unknown location of the shooter and the young victim bleeding from several bullet wounds.
Even as it occurred within several blocks of two large schools, the mid-morning shooting seemed to generate little more alarm than sandhill cranes in the parking lot.
The Second Amendment has formed a scab of ignorance over the collective US brain: using a gun is how problems were solved back when horse shit in the streets was a major problem; and that mentality obviously prevailed in the Tree Lane shooter’s mind.
The original right-to-bear-arms was written to defend against home invasion by men with selfish ulterior motivations, an absurd prospect for 250 years, until the emergence of the MAGA madness and ICE goons on the doorstep.
As guns increasingly become the tools used by all entities in this cruel charade, the scabbed-over collective gun-oriented brain will either fatally rupture or come to life with a solution to deal with the very real home invasion problem without involving guns.
Protests out on Tree Lane today by the Silver Badgers and others, and voting in November are more appropriate tools for now.
The keeper cannot get the image of 2×4 clubs wielded with vigor out of his mind!
