Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper will be retiring from his very brief TV career following his appearance on the Channel 15 evening news with his presence built around the question of just why he was there in the first place.
Young TV reporter Kayla gathered enough material to do a full-length movie, encouraging the keeper to blab on as if what he said would be received by countless spellbound TV viewers.
Reduced by Kayla to its apparent TV essentials, the keeper barely managed to acknowledge Phyllis’s presence and expound on the virtues of his recently published novel–“Ah, the Women!”
The story behind the TV story is the use of a 75-year-old photo of the keeper in his Army uniform collecting an autograph from Satchel Paige at the 1953 All Star game in Cincinnati, and that image being used in a recent promo by the popular Ted Lasso show.
It is a bit late in the game for the keeper to be thinking about a TV career, but he cannot resist imagining a title for his possible show, something like Bob and Ray used for their old radio show: “Around the corner and up your block.”
Maybe the keeper might call his TV show: “Heading around the corner and up the big block,” which would offer advice to his nonagenarian age group, such as “Control your inclination to do dumb things. At your age you have already done almost all of them.”
