Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper and Phyllis were invited by Bonnie and Ed to visit with one of their granddaughters–Laila, who had expressed an interest in writing. Ever willing to talk about himself, the keeper told his story of how Ed Gein, the Plainfield grave-robbing murderer figured in getting the keeper his first writing job in Stevens Point.
And then he listened as Laila, a pretty, vivacious Stevens Point college student, told her story of being in her bikini and taking the sun in the back yard with her pet chickens close by when an adult wild bobcat bounded out of nearby woods and attacked one of Laila’s favorite chickens before retreating back into the woods and leaving a severely traumatized Laila to deal with her bloodied and dying pet chicken.
With a story like that to kick off a writing career, it is the keeper’s opinion that Laila is on her writing way. And if it were possible he would trade Ed Gein for the chicken-killing bobcat in a second.
