Kickass and Libraries

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper wallowing one more time in the wonderful world of librarians as word comes that grandson Bud is in the librarian ranks with an official certifying document that says as much as he works at his library job in the Fox River Valley.

Libraries are the fortifications in the war against ignorance. They demonstrate the verity that library learning can come with exhilaration, possible life-saving facts and instructions for building a house.

During his many column writing years, libraries were the keeper’s go-to refuge when deadline desperation set in as it often did. The local newspapers, a fellow library visitor or the friendly librarians themselves were always much appreciated rescuers.

The family is familiar with the story of Bud’s 23-ounce birth weight, his tennis-ball-sized head and his parents–Pat and Tim’s two-year struggle to keep Bud hooked up to necessary oxygen.

Now the oxygen is gone and the tennis ball head has grown to normal size and is full of all the good stuff that makes for a successful librarian.

Congratulations, Bud!  We are all proud of you!
