Kickass and His Silver Walker

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper is still searching for ways to adjust to the intrusion of a walker into his life, solely as an occasional balance aid and never to be acknowledged as yet another reminder that he is damn old and hopes to get even older.

Therein is the logic: anything that helps protect the keeper from falling on his ass and breaking something is going to get a serious look since “falling” opens the exit door for way too many of the keeper’s contemporaries.

The “walker” label is unfortunate and the keeper will not be using it. He will instead refer to the device as his “wheels” or “ride” and may give it an appropriate name like “Silver”, as in the Lone Ranger’s horse which was also the name of the keeper’s childhood pony that refused to go more than a quarter of a mile from home, frequently after bucking off the Lone Ranger.

A possible problem with this plan is that when the keeper inevitably has to ask Phylis where he left “Silver” it could be inferred that he is treating her as his stable hand, which probably would not surprise her.

Time to get out of here!

Hi-ho Silver, AWAY!
