Kickass, the doorstop dog, joins the keeper and Phyllis in saluting the countless people out there everywhere who really define what it means to be a human being, and specifically an American human–a decent, thoughtful, generous, multiethnic American who wears the “VOLUNTEER” label.
The VOLUNTEERS are everywhere, quietly doing countless jobs with no thought of public notice or reward.
Sylvia, the volunteer driver for an organization providing medical rides for veterans, transported the keeper to the VA eye clinic yesterday for the treatment that renders him temporarily unable to drive. Then she drove him back home and cheerfully went on her way to her next VOLUNTEER gig.
Like many VOLIUNTEERS, Sylvia has been on her self-assigned mission for years.
They are special people, all those VOLUNTEERS.
They do not have time for it, but if a comparison were to be made with the bought-and-paid-for ICE (Ignorance Comes Easy) muscle heads, the VOLUNTEERS would carry the day in a walk off.
Than you, Sylvia and the thousands like you who remind us on a daily basis that decency reigns and doubtless will somehow prevail.
