Kickass Goes South

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that for many years the keeper would be using these post-holiday days to return his Christmas gifts for cash he could use to buy enough gas to get the hell out of Wisconsin and far enough south to go fishing without needing an ice chisel.

The keeper has nothing against ice fishing and in fact inherited a weird attraction to it. But being able to head south after the holidays gave him a false sense of semi-affluence

or possessing the unique mental capacity of a late migrating sandhill crane.

The result of these Florida/Texas forays broadened the keeper’s horizons to the extent that he came to know about the importance of reinstalling a boat’s drain plug, and the thrill of running full speed up onto a jagged oyster bar while on a solo night fishing excursion in the middle of the Intercoastal Waterway.

There was so much more that it will take the rest of this winter to tell Phyllis about it. But she isn’t going anywhere and neither is the keeper. He’s been there and done that and he’s too damn old to even think of trying any of it again. And that, quite frankly, really pisses him
