Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper is anxious to firm up his and Phyllis’s excuse for not attending the big Mazomanie Winter Solstice bonfire and the subsequent plunge into Black Earth Creek. The fact is they were both busy with their recliner clinical trials and might be saddened to witness family members actually jumping into the ice-cold creek when ICE was not even around to force the issue.
While the keeper has been inadvertently dunked in Black Earth Creek in night-time summer trout fishing escapades close to the longest day of the year, it is simply not in him to deliberately jump into the icy stream on the shortest day of the year.
He further questions the efforts of adult family members who not only do so themselves but also encourage innocent great-grandchildren to take the plunge. The keeper would name names but his clan members know who they are and apparently do not fear community ostracization.
History shows Mazomanie was once nationally identified as the location of a much-used public nude beach, prompting the keeper and other family members to produce a play entitled “Naked At Amazo”, which tried to point out the absurdity of it all.
Apparently the “absurdity” beat goes on with his clan members in the thick of it. The keeper is proud, sort of.
