Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper lamenting the eventual elimination of the penny as announced recently by the official coin providers.
Both the keeper and Phyllis have childhood memories of placing pennies on the railroad track; and they acknowledge that throughout their long lives they never failed to bend over to pick up a lost or dropped penny, even though the bending over became ever more challenging, particularly for the keeper. That simple penny pick-up always came with a flurry of convoluted symbolism involving thrift, humility, self-reliance and a smidgen of personal satisfaction.
With the penny so prominent in daily sayings will “A penny for your thoughts” eventually become “A million dollars for what’s on your political mind?”
Somebody needs to ask Elon, he of the trillion-dollar wage package and the POTUS friend who takes pennies away from hungry kids and gives them to the billionaires—and trillionaires.
Goodbye, Penny. It’s been good to know you!
