Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper favors Halloween as his favorite holiday for its encouragement to do totally stupid things. It can’t get any stupider than to tip over the outhouse, which was a feature of the keeper’s youthful Halloweens.
The advent of modern plumbing and the impossibility of tipping over a bathroom thankfully changed that scene and the focus is now on little dressed-up witches and goblins going door to door in a unique plan of world-wide candy distribution.
A noteworthy local Halloween event this year was the group of Madison women who dressed up as witches, mounted stand-up paddle boards and cavorted up and down the Yahara River in the middle of town. In a post event inquiry, Phyllis learned that the paddleboard witches do not have a political agenda and the group is made up of friends getting together to have fun.
The keeper will try to discourage Phyllis from joining the group, but he knows how that sort of thing goes and he is prepared to find off-season storage room for a standup paddleboard.
