Kickass, the doorstop dog, with his limited interest in words–“Eat, nap, fetch, couch,” was not at the recent gathering of writers and readers at a west side retirement venue but got reports from the keeper and Phyllis who were there along with writers Geoff and Jerry. This meant writers, while not outnumbering potential readers, presented a force to be reckoned with as Geoff tried to explain why and how he sat in front of a computer long enough to write another interesting novel–“In Bad Faith,” that people should buy and read.
It is a familiar drill that many writers—being more comfortable with solitude, do not rate as their favorite activity. It is a labor-intensive way to sell books even for the heavy-hitter celebrity authors and big-name politicos but is a part of how the current book scene functions.
But if you are going to write ‘em you need to tell people about ‘em or you are writing for the dog who cannot read.
Geoff did just that under challenging conditions and then he and his wife Kris went on down the road toting boxes of “In Bad Faith”.
It is a good read. Buy it and make the life of one writer more writing and less hustling.
