Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper burdened with the caveman residual survival sense that a life without meat—even one meal, is hardly worth living, while Phyllis promotes a diet of green plants and other things from “Mr. MacGregor’s” garden.
The keeper does little to promote his case, other than to whine at times. Phyllis, on the other hand, has a small, elevated garden that produces some tomatoes and a carrot or two; and she tends to hang out in the grocery store produce department while the keeper loiters over where they sell meatloaf and pork chops.
Like many couples in their age group, they have worked out a compromise from a dietary standpoint that sometimes means being in the kitchen seperately as the keeper fries up bacon or Phyllis chops up some more lettuce.
Unbreaded chicken and fish dishes tend to facilitate some mealtime togetherness, and as good as Phyllis’s refrigerator soup can be, the keeper often feels an inner urge for rich, salty gravy poured over biscuits and heaps of lean meat. It’s obviously a caveman thing.
Bon appetit!
