Kickass, the doorstop dog, is at a loss to help the keeper with his current dilemma in which he has this inexplicable urge to go to Paoli, a small crossroads community just south of Madison.
It was only through his keen ability to think analytically that the keeper was able to conclude that he is reacting to the mysterious force that dictates mass migration this time of year.
It follows that in the remnants of the DNA he shares with the millions of birds nightly migrating overhead, there is a very subtle message telling him that if he wants to survive the winter he should head south, if no farther than Paoli.
This, of course makes no sense, but DNA handoffs frequently seem to shortchange the human species. Think of birds’ effortless flight while humans plod around with the grace of cave dwellers, especially in the winter in such places as Paoli.
The keeper will try to talk it over with Phyllis, who once migrated as far as Arizona before the keeper brought her back to Wisconsin where she could experience migratory DNA urges that might want her to go farther south than Paoli. Maybe as far as Stoughton.
