Kickass, the doorstop dog, updates the keeper’s granddaughter Sarah’s involvement with wild mushrooms, recently leading her to set up a table at the Mazomanie downtown market night offering for sale a half dozen different fungi she had found the day before in the local woods.
Sarah is certified by dint of profession training to share her mushroom passion with others, including the keeper and Phyllis who, like most people, find their fungi interest limited to morel days.
Spending time with Sarah means you learn how we share the environment with a great variety of mushrooms, many of them good to eat and one called “Old man of the woods” which of course the keeper identifies with, and which makes him realize that one long lifetime is not long enough when it does not include the basic information of sharing the planet with fungi.
Thanks, Sarah!
