Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper and Phyllis looking for a parallel to their constant efforts to keep up with their prescribed maintenance schedule and in the keeper’s case it would be akin to keeping a steam locomotive on the tracks and out of the way of speeding diesel engines, long freight and speeding passenger trains.
In Phyllis’s case perhaps the comparison might be to keeping a classic car ready for the next drive to town for car show socialization or a library visit.
The facts are that personal upkeep becomes an ever increasing issue with the years and if that were not the case the riders in the elevators at Vista West and similar venues would have nothing to talk about beyond the weather.
