Kickass and Pasture Bulls

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper resists reality at every aging moment, but must admit that it is unlikely he will have an opportunity to test his late fishing friend John Lawton’s theory of how to proceed when encountering an aggressive bull in a pasture where you are fishing a trout stream.

It was John’s theory, expressed on a number of appropriate occasions, that instead of running away from a pursuing bull it is best to run directly toward the bull. This, according to John’s theory confuses the bull to the point that it has to stop and rethink what it is doing whereupon you can stroll off and fish in peace and quiet.

Despite a number of occasions when there was an opportunity to test his bull theory, John was content to let it remain just a theory. And given that most pasture bulls have been replaced with artificial insemination, and the keeper’s “running” days are pretty much over unless something is on fire, there is not likely to ever be a true test of the running bull theory. Should someone know of one, the keeper would much appreciate hearing about it so he can tell Phyllis about some of the deep thinking that characterized his past.
