Kickass and Woodman’s Calamity

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that neither the keeper nor Phyllis were anywhere near the Woodman’s grocery store when the roof fell in, creating an impressive waterfall over the produce department and giving several customers wet feet and presumably damp apples and bananas.

News of the calamity, however, triggered the memory of another Woodman’s event that became something of a keeper-clan classic, much to the chagrin of the lead participant.

Some 30 or so years ago the keeper was shopping in a Woodman’s store when the store was completely taken over by the screaming demands of an out-of-control child. It was bad and every shopper in the store scowled and commented as the offending noise seemed to get even louder.

Then as the keeper rounded an aisle corner, there was one of his toddler grandchildren in a cart being pushed by her frustrated mother, and that grandchild was so into her screaming tirade that she did not even pause it to acknowledge the presence of her grandfather.

In fairness, the grandfather did not attempt a lot of immediate family socializing, the circumstances being what they were.

That screaming granddaughter is now a pretty young mother with her own potential grocery-store screamers, and to further identify her would not be fair to other clan members. But she knows who she is and so does all the rest of the clan.

In sessions of family reminiscence, the long-ago occasion is known as “the day of the Woodman’s screamer!”

Might there be a way for Woodman’s to coordinate falling/flooding roofs with out of control screaming grandchildren?

Just a thought!
