Kickass, the doorstop dog, listens as the keeper recounts his general failure as a great adventurer:
- Walking across Wisconsin with spring and developing foot blisters so big he could not walk anywhere.
- Floating down the big rivers to New Orleans with Mike and only getting as far as the highway 14 bridge before rescue was necessary.
- Replicating his grandfather’s 250-mile bicycle ride from Madison to Barron County and blowing both tires in Sauk City that ended it.
- Driving around Lake Superior in the winter and getting speeding tickets in Canada, Michigan and Wisconsin in attempting to meet copy deadlines.
There are more as the keeper did his best to find ways to stay out of various newspaper city rooms, and now he does not often bring up his adventure failures to Phyllis who has medals on a personal walking-stick as proof that she has hiked in every national park in the continental US.

If the keeper were still in the newspaper column business he might try to sell the editors on a series about him and Phyllis leading a march on Washington to clean out the swamp.
What could possibly go wrong!
