Kickass, the doorstop dog, joins the keeper and Phyllis in constantly marveling at their good fortune in having such outstanding grandchildren, and great grandchildren, of course.
Periodically there are occurrences that endorse this judgement, and so it was when Nick and Liz sent the keeper a copy of “The Breeding Birds of Minnesota,” a magnificent tome fresh from the University of Minnesota Press that has already made the keeper’s bird-oriented neighbors insanely jealous.
The book’s lead academic author is a client of financial advisor Liz which gives it something of a personal connection. Then there is the personal connection in that Nick inherited the keeper’s flyfishing passion which puts him out there with the beautiful birds.
On page 432, the great book says that the house finches which visit the keeper and Phyllis’s Vista West balcony are among 40 million in the country and their charming song is much appreciated. The keeper will be joining the singing finches to laud the qualities of his grandchildren.
