Kickass and D-Day

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper and Phyllis are among the Vista West residents who gather weekly for a “Happy Hour” event at which there is mild and usually light-hearted celebration of having survived another week.

Yesterday–June 6, the group was reminded by fellow resident Jim Holter that it was the anniversary of D-DAY; and there followed personal testimonials of remembering that day so long ago–1944, as little boys and girls, and how relatives later got those awful “War Department” letters.

So the “Happy Hour” took on an added dimension with “Happy to be here, thanks in part to those thousands who lie under the white crosses in France.”

Thanks to Jim for the reminder that growing old is a rare privilege not enjoyed by all.
