Kickass and John Muir

Kickass, the doorstop dog, joins the keeper and Phyllis in sending a brief message to John Muir, wherever he might be:

“John:

“It is a glorious Sunday–May 21, 2023, and we are here at the lake on your old farmstead in Marquette county; and it is so blissfully quiet it takes your breath away; there is only birdsong, which is never a violation of “quiet.”

“We would like to be able to tell you that all is right with the world, but it isn’t, and perhaps you might tell us that that is the way of all nature including the haplessly arrogant humans who may be cycling out like the dodo birds.

“Before that happens, however, there are flawless Sundays like this one–trees freshly leafed out, lupine blossoming, not a ripple on your lake–and that incredible, wonderful quiet.

“You should be here, John, and maybe you are. As for us, we’re coming back–with relaxing lawn chairs to sit and meditate, and maybe after that when we’ve recycled as a couple of those singing birds.

“Maybe we’ll run into you.

“All the best, John,

“Phyllis and the keeper.”
