Kickass and Fruit Fly Travel

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper’s Covid timeout has enhanced his efforts to see his recent mountains/glacier travels with Phyllis in a more natural context, perhaps like that of a couple of fruit flies emerging from nowhere to seek some of life’s vague sweetness.

If there is one thing that buzzing the planet’s forever-evolving wild communities does for travelers, it is to smack down their egos and remind them of their awesome insignificance. In their flailing to accept this, they are prone to risk their lives in the inane “sport” of mountain climbing or demonstrating domination over lesser creatures; and to arrogantly marvel at just where they were four million years ago when the big ball came out of the big bang.

From fruit flies to dogs, the keeper sees that his recent travel with Phyllis was not unlike the game of fetch in which he will bring back whatever it was that he was looking for as soon as he finds it.

In the meantime, he will happily “sit and stay” with Phyllis as they kennel with Covid and sort through wonderful memories and photos.

Travel when you can, the keeper advises: if it turns you into a sweet-seeking fruit fly or a fetching dog, you are having a great trip.
