Kickass and Banning Books

Kickass, the doorstop dog, is trying to assist the keeper in getting his novel—Margaret’s War banned; and has only succeeded in getting Phyllis to toss it out of the kitchen when the keeper carelessly leaves his ever-present promotional copy too close to a stove burner.

Nothing is closer to an author’s heart than to be banned, and the closest the keeper has come was when an elderly woman walked out of one of his book readings after he read a part of Margaret’s War in which the 15-year-old narrator used the name of the Lord in vain.

Margaret’s War deals with the obscenity of disempowered women, victimized veterans, grieving mothers looking into the eyes of their sons’ killers, and sex from the standpoint of post-pubescent confusion.

There is no limit to the reasons for Margaret’s War to be banned.

Any young reader is likely to be brain damaged by accepting the incredible verity that when those who actually fight a war look each other in the eye, they end up asking, “Why the hell are we killing each other?

There is also a scene about a food fight at a church Ladies Aid meeting, and that alone may be reason enough for banning Margaret’s War.
