Kickass, the doorstop dog, looks over the keeper’s shoulder to see that he finally received a piece of mail that was a refreshing departure from the advertising junk that normally clogs up his and Phyllis’s mailbox.
The meaningful mail was a personally printed letter from great grandson Trevor, and while it bore the marks of a grade school letter-writing project it was really something special to the keeper and he will be composing a very careful response, including answers to the thoughtful questions Trevor’s letter asks, perhaps with some parental\teacher consultation.
“Dear Pa-B. What did you look like when you were a kid?”
“Are you going to be 105 years old? My family says you are 94.”
“What war were you in? The cold war?”
‘Did you dirtbike or four-wheeler?”
“Did you make friends with black people after civil rights?”
Until he gets at the official response, the keeper passes on the message to Trevor that his letter was one of the best things to happen to the keeper in a long time, maybe since he “looked like” a skinny, freckle-faced kid with a perpetual sunburn and bruises from falling off his ornery four-legged “dirt” pony.
Thanks again, Trevor!
