Kickass, the doorstop dog, reveals that the keeper is responsible for the big storm having ordered it as a birthday present for Phyllis. His thinking was that having been born in Canada, Phyllis must like snow, so he ordered lots of it for her birthday which, being the day before St. Patrick’s Day, the gift snow should obviously be green and it was so ordered.
The message back from AI was that all available green coloring had been used to do the Chicago River, and yellow snow was suggested as a substitute with special delivery by high government officials who offered a unique bonus of using very personal equipment to write their names in the snow in a way that turned it yellow.
Such juvenile-boy tactics are not appropriate for a distinguished occasion like Phyllis’ birthday, and the offer was declined.
By the time the keeper and Phyllis got together in their senior years she had migrated out of Canada through Wisconsin and was living in Arizona. The fact that she left all the warm sunshine to join the keeper in the land of snow and ice makes her the perfect partner for him with his record of never having left snow country in the first place.
Happy birthday, Babe! You’re the best!
