Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper impressed with a bit of research showing that Johnny Appleseed sometimes went barefoot in the snow, slept in the woods and once fell out of an apple tree and was caught by the neck between two branches to be rescued by an eight-year-old boy who cut the tree down thus freeing Johnny.

Johnny died of an illness at 71 on March 18, 1845.

In his endless quest for heroes to emulate, the keeper is high on Johnny Appleseed especially after finding the poem about him that said, “Some thought the old man crazy while others considered him only lazy, and no matter the jibes and jeers, he knew he was working for future years.”

The keeper will be checking with Phyllis to see what if anything she thinks the keeper and Johnny might have had in common. Let the record she reviews show that most of the apples Johnny promoted went to male apple cider and not pies.
