Kickass, the doorstop dog, notes the keeper and Phyllis joining part of the clan at Becky and Beau’s in Mazomanie for a bonfire celebration put together by Sarah to ironically mark her imminent return to fiery California.
The event featured a big pot of Mike’s chili, grilled cheese sandwiches by Sarah, treats by Becky and Spotted Cow from Beau’s fridge.
Typically, there were a few new campfire reports, one from Scot about a surprise tug-of-war with a beaver on the Black Earth creek ice and another by David about shooting the squirrel he was roasting on a stick over the campfire.
There was the usual revisiting of old stories and talk about those who are gone from the campfire circles but are remembered with amusement and love.
Venus was there, blinking overhead like a classy signal that all is well. And of course it was.
