Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper, prompted by fellow poster Scott MW, acknowledges the significance of this time of year as it marks the last day of the school term and what that means to young minds.
Was there ever a time so important to a country boy as that “last day” when the summer laid out there like the Yellow Brick Road and an exhausted country-school teacher would no longer be watching your every move!
In what the keeper deemed extreme cruelty, for a couple of years his mother signed him up for a country church’s Bible school convening immediately following dismissal of the regular school term. That move backfired, Mom, and may be one of the reasons the keeper adheres to the teachings of George Carlin.
In an attempt to recapture some of the long ago “last day of school” joy, the keeper consulted with Phyllis who said in Canada where she grew up, the end of the school term was marked by a “Sports Day” when students competed in athletic events for ribbons and medals, many of which she won.
So, that’s it—the keeper will stow his “Bible School” resentment and think of the “last day of school” as the time when Phillis as a little girl was winning it all up there in Saskatchewan.
