Kickass and Collecting

Kickass, the doorstop dog, is little help to the keeper as he tries to figure out why he is prone to “collecting” while Phyllis prefers a more clutter-free life.

In a recent visit with Carol who is among the Vista West premiere collectors, the point was made with her exquisite examples of children’s kitchen ware and her acquisition adventure stories that collecting can be life enriching as well as a way to dramatize your surroundings with beautiful and unique items.

As a collecting addict, the keeper has gone through it with old cars, antique toys, musical instruments, children sewing machines, military gear, tools, fishing tackle, outdoor equipment, books and various other things.

The collections are all gone now, and the keeper does his best to abide by Phyllis’s request that he stay out of the resale and antique stores. But in a recent “slip” at St. Vinny’s he bought a beautiful pair of new trail snowshoes to prop in a corner where he can plainly see and admire them.

Phyllis has not complained about the snowshoes, yet, but if she does the keeper will point out that her sons and other family members collect coins and sports cards and even old cars, and he would urge her to visit Carol again.
