Kickass, the doorstop dog, notes how the keeper was reminded of the awesome burden of being an older brother by Taylor and Trevor at a recent gathering by the river.
Citing his “older brother” experience with Orville, the keeper refrained from giving advice to Taylor, and only tried to comfort him with the verity that despite your best efforts a younger brother will rarely meet your standards of behavior and you might as well accept that and go on about your own business.
As that turned out for the keeper, his younger brother ended up as a Lieutenant Colonel while the keeper struggled to make Sgt. 1st Class.
Phyllis, as the oldest of eleven, claims the ultimate authority in the area of dealing with younger siblings. Some of her stories carry an edge of despair and surrender to the inevitable—not much is to really be done about younger brothers!
So, Taylor, try to be nice to Trevor: The day may come when you will want to borrow money from him.
