Kickass, the doorstop dog, passes along the word that if you are old enough to know that Mr. Whipple was a TV celebrity as a result of his “Please don’t squeeze the Charmin” toilet tissue ads, then you might remember when he visited the Green Bay area and was welcomed as a conquering hero.

As a columnist at the time, the keeper spent the day with Mr. Whipple as he circulated through toilet tissue making facilities, embracing giggling women and acting the role of cultural celebrity.

It made for an interesting column, timely at the time, but obviously meaningless to the current Wisconsin citizenry having no idea who Mr. Whipple was. He was actor Dick Wilson who said his Mr. Whipple gig sent his daughters through college and built them a new house.

The keeper brings up this old Green Bay memory to make the point that if he were still writing columns, he would not have been in Green Bay Sunday for Musk’s appearance as not having as much public interest as toilet tissue.
