Kickass and Bird Photos

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper is thinking of dropping out of the bird photo competition as it is too tough for his obvious limited talents. Photo friends Harry and Jerry and Jim and many others will understand and maybe cheer for a less cluttered display field.

But before he hangs up his trusty Nikon, the keeper would like to offer two of his bird photos and point out their cultural significance.

Photo 1 shows long lineups of birds perched on utility wires which the keeper suggests symbolizes much of the voting public as it waits to see if the wires get powered up by stray voltage and burns their feet or are shorted out enough to blow up the nearby transformer.

Photo 2 shows a gallinule clamped in the jaws of an alligator. The keeper took this photo many years ago on a Sanibel Island campground when he heard the squawking of the gallinule as it found itself in the alligator’s clutches. It is the keeper’s opinion that what makes this a valid if not a great bird picture is its obvious message that squawking too late is meaningless, whether you are a gallinule or a voter.

The keeper will be taking more photos of Phyllis as his favorite “bird” and a great photographer in her own right. So, there is that competition!
