Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports from the birthday party for the keeper’s great grandson “River” which was held in the house the keeper built 25 years ago on a Mazomanie hilltop and where River now lives with his family. The following is the keeper’s birthday message to River:
“Happy 7th birthday, Riv! Did you know that if you and I combined our ages we would be 100. Hard to believe, but like the saying goes “age is just a number.”
If you were to divide your age into mine, Riv, there could be more that 13 of you, which means you could be an entire hockey team with goalies to spare.
By the time you get to be the keeper’s age, Riv, it will be the year 2117 and everyone will likely have long since crowded into Canada to avoid the packs of rabid billionaires roaming North America.
The only advice your old “Pa-B” feels qualified to pass along to you in your long trek to his nonagenarian age group is to keep breathing and try to keep company with good women like Phyllis and your mom Ari because women will be running things in 2117 if there is anything left to run.
“Happy Birthday, Riv, and may you have many more!”
