Kickass, the doorstop dog, passes along an update of the keeper and Phyllis’s efforts to relocate given their discomfort with the US’s incoming flat-earth leadership.
While Phyllis’s Canada relatives did not issue a flat “no,” there was not what could be called untethered enthusiasm for Phyllis returning to the country of her birth, particularly if she were to bring along an “immigrant” like the keeper.
After exhaustive research, the keeper is hoping to complete arrangements to join the “Marsh Arabs” who live on reed-made rafts–“mudhifs” at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in SE Iraq and have been there for centuries.
As for his raft-living qualifications, the keeper cites his and his son Mike’s experience of attempting to float to New Orleans and only getting as far as Arena.
Should the Marsh Arab thing work out, there is no doubt that Phyllis would see to it that she and the keeper had the neatest “mudhif” on the river.
Something to think about in these challenging times.
