Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that at a recent social gathering of Vista West neighbors, the keeper and Bernard had a little talk about “THE NUMBER,” Bernard’s being 95 and the keeper’s 93.
After some discussion as to how those numbers came about—some genetic involvement but luck being the determining factor, both Bernard and the keeper agreed that their respective wives, Inge and Phyllis are large factors in living comfortably with such awesome numbers.
Bernard, with a science background of major inventions in the small engine space field still dabbles at inventing—think devices for putting on compression stockings, and the keeper as a long-time journalist who can’t seem to quit writing, talked of Vista West friends with numbers even larger than theirs.
“It’s just there,” Bernard said of his 95 number. “I don’t think about it.”
Bernard’s method is the only way, in the keeper’s opinion, to deal with “the number” no matter what it is, like Vista West friend Hilda with a 104 number and the perky attitude of someone too busy to think about it.
