Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper respectfully puts aside all the concerns and comments of the day to bid goodbye to Shirley, his brother Orville’s wife who died yesterday after an incredible life of selfless compassion for all living things.
Shirley’s lifelong efforts on behalf of critters, and her unstoppable will to live through multiple personal health challenges made her one-of-a-kind, and the keeper is proud to have had her as a beloved sister-in-law.
Twenty-five years and four days ago—Sept. 20, 1999, the keeper was where Orv is now—trying to cope with the end of a long term—42 years, loving partner’s life as Betty died.
There are meaningless cliches to pass along at such a time, Orv,
and I will spare you any from me.
Shirley was a great woman! You were incredibly lucky to share your life with her and know that among her countless virtues was her kind tolerance of a questionable brother-in-law.
Thanks for your life, Shirley. We will all miss you.
