Kickass, the doorstop dog, notes the keeper’s efforts to do something for the sports fans by resurrecting parts of a “Roundy Says” Wis, State Journal column from Aug. 1, 1968:

“I see Coach Bengtson of Packers will use the short pass to Travis Williams this year

“I think it is the best play in football.

“Coatta used it in the spring game if he used it this fall the offense would look better.”

Roundy Coughlin’s ungrammatical column was a Madison newspaper fixture for many years. When the keeper began writing a column in the early 60’s Roundy volunteered the following advice: “Names, kid. Get lots of names in. People love to see their names in the paper.”

Roundy died in 1971 and while the keeper did not precisely follow his advice about the importance of names in a column, he recognized that they were best when they were about people as in “Roundy Says.”
