Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that it is not as if the keeper is looking for a life-changing means of improving his situation, but in pawing through the debris of his life he ran across several “Safe conduct Passes” he had picked up on the Korean front in 1951.
If ever there was promise of a significant life change it is in the passes, one of which reads in part: “The bearer has only to present this pass to any member or unit of the Korean People’s Army or the Chinese People’s Volunteer Forces, and he will be well treated. Put down your weapon and shout ‘Surrender’. In Korean–‘TOO HUNG.’ In Chinese–‘TOW SHONG’.”
The keeper was obviously not tempted by the “passes” at the time, but he is curious as to what might happen some 70 years later if he were to shout “Too Hung” or “Tow Shong” in various public venues?
He is quite sure that if he talked it over with Phyllis she would suggest that such behavior would be sure to get the keeper “safe conduct” to a secure space.
