Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper shares a common experience with Dem Veep candidate Tim Walz in that both were arrested for DUI earlier in life, were fined and temporarily lost driving privileges.
Tim, as a 30-year-old teacher at the time, responded by doing a life-time switch to Mountain Dew and telling his students of the perils of alcohol.
The keeper, a 19-year-old partier, found life to be impossible in a small town—Barron, without wheels and did a three-year enlistment in the Army which ultimately found him in a shooting war.
Later with the Mil. Jour. the keeper did a six-part series— “Drink, Drank, Drunk” exploring his and society’s absurd alcohol issues. The series—in pamphlet form which elicited more meaningful response than anything he ever wrote is available on Amazon.
The DUI that moved the keeper from Barron to Korea was perhaps the best thing that could have happened to him—GI bill, VA care, a treasured writer’s life.
Perhaps if he had made the switch to Mountain Dew he might have had a shot at the really big-time ala Tim Walz.
The keeper will drink to that, just a sip or two of Korbels.
