Kickass, the doorstop dog, agrees with the keeper and Phyllis that this is the time of prairie glory with such expansive growth of spectacular blossoming plants as to defy description. On a recent tour of family property west of Madison, Vista West neighbors Joyce and Jerry hosted the keeper on a breathtaking afternoon prairie session that left him in awe and made neighboring corn fields hang their boring ears in embarrassment.
Never shy about giving advice, the keeper says, “Go to a prairie on one of these bright August days and wallow there like a butterfly.”
(Butterflies can wallow and so can old men if the setting is right.)
